Naked Army’s early WW2 portrayal shows an infantryman during the dawn attack on established Italian perimeter defences at Bardia, Libya, 3 January, 1941, Australia’s first full engagement against enemy troops in the Second World War
Protected against the bitter cold by his greatcoat, leather jerkin and home-made balaclava, he carries the venerable Short Magazine Lee Enfield (SMLE) rifle & 18 inch bayonet,. His winter uniform and Pattern ’37 equipment are similar to all British Commonwealth troops during early WW2.
