Royal Australian Regiment Vietnam War Memorial Canungra Land Warfare Centre

Naked Army’s sculpture forms the centerpiece for LWC Canungra’s Vietnam Memorial relocation project.

VIETNAM MEMORIAL RELOCATION PROJECT - LWC CANUNGRA QUEENSLAND

This collaborative relocation effort at Land Warfare Centre Canungra was spearheaded and coordinated by Kokoda Youth Foundation, and involved veterans, and local architects, local trades, and facilitated by ADF personnel. The sculpture forms the centrepiece of the Memorial and represents an Australian serviceman on patrol during the early Vietnam War period, and is orientated to look into the early morning sun as it rises on 18 August, an acknowledgement to the Battle of Long Tan.

CAMERON BAIRD VC MG sculpture receives final treatment at our foundry partner Australian Bronze in Manly NSW.

CAMERON BAIRD VC MG MEMORIAL SCULPTURE

Corporal Cameron Baird, a 2nd Commando Regiment soldier, was mortally wounded while leading his platoon into a known Taliban stronghold in Uruzgan Province Afghanistan, 22 June 2013.
His actions in made him the 100th recipient of the Victoria Cross for Australia. The award was given posthumously in February 2014.
The monumental sculpture is located at Currumbin RSL, Queensland.

THE RAR FOUNDATION HASSETT AWARD
CPL Matthew Reid of The 1st Battalion, The Royal Australian Regiment, for being this year’s recipient of the Hassett Award

The Hassett Trophy is awarded annually by the Royal Australian Regiment Foundation to the most outstanding junior leader from the Royal Australian Infantry. The Governor-General of Australia David Hurley presented the 2021 Hassett Trophy to Corporal Matthew Reid, 1st Battalion, The Royal Australian Regiment.

Named for General Sir Francis Hassett the trophy was based on Naked Army’s Bardia infantryman bronze figurine. General Hassett was wounded at Bardia in 1941, and led 3RAR in the iconic Battle of Maryang San in Korea in 1951. General Hassett’s 59-year career also included posts to New Guinea and Bougainville during WW2, command of troops Malaya, and in 1975 he became Chief of the Defence Force Staff.

The RAR Foundation’s Hassett Award is presented by Governor General David Hurley to CPL Matthew Reid of The 1st Battalion, The Royal Australian Regiment.
